Red, itchy allergy eyes...YUCK!

I have pretty crazy allergies. I live in Atlanta. It's a given here. And I hate the symptoms. I usually get the sneezing, congestion, tiredness...the usual. But the thing that bothers me the most is the crazy, insane, ridiculous itchy allergy eyes. It happens every year. And NOTHING has stopped it. Last year I would lay on my couch with a wet cold cloth on my eyes with oranges on top to keep pressure on my eyes. (I wish I could find my picture from that!!)

So this year I had to find something better. I mean, I've got 2 kids!! I can't lay around with oranges on my eyes! (As much as I'd like to!)

So I consulted my oils. Lavender is a great oil for allergies but my husband DETESTS the smell. So I try and come up with other options if I can.

Enter FRANKINCENSE!!!!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So here

Need I say more?! INSTANT relief from the crazy itching. And even the redness went down!!!

Does this story make you wish you had some Frankincense for your itchy eyes?

Just a little story about Ylang Ylang

I am not what you would call an "even-keel" person. I am either really up or really down. I feel things very deeply and make a lot of decisions based upon my feelings. (I know. I need to work on that!)

As a result of this, my stress level tends to be high. Stress can be either good or bad. You can have good stress: getting to know a new person we really like better, developing new skills, achieving a goal, etc. But there is also bad stress: I don't really think I need to list examples of those!!

This past year has been somewhat stressful for me. And not a good stress kind. My 6 year old has been evaluated and diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and is in the process of being diagnosed with high-functioning autism (what used to be known as Asperger's). This has been a stressful time for me. Not because of the diagnoses, but because of the daily life at home. Dealing with what these disorders bring to our home life.

I have been under my doctor's care for hypertension. I have been evaluated for high blood pressure - my top was 159/104. I'm 32 years old. I should not be having issues with this high of blood pressure. Yet, there it is. I was having to take my blood pressure once a day for a month and submit the results to my doctor. I saw the pattern of high BP and high pulse and was not happy.

ENTER

I looked through my literature (namely The Higley) and found that Ylang Ylang is excellent for helping hypertension. So I began using it. I started putting it over my heart but then I switched to my inner forearms. 2 drops every morning.

I took my blood pressure yesterday and it was 104/86!!!!!!! People, you can't get better than that!!!! It's not been that good for a LOOOOOOOONG time!

April Essential Rewards Box!!!!

I got my April Essential Rewards Box today!!!! My friend Jodi calls them her Life Box. I never understood that until I started getting my own. It's a pretty appropriate name!!!

I LOVE getting my YL Mail!!!!! I literally stalk the mail guy. And as soon as it comes, both me and my children head straight for the kitchen to open all the goodies!!!!

This month was my biggest order ever! I ordered a few things for my daughter, a few things for me, and 2 friends who aren't members got in on the order. It was AWESOME!!!!

Here's what I got:

Everyday Oils Kit
Remember, this kit includes Frankincense, Lemon, Lavender, Joy, Peppermint, Thieves, Valor, PanAway, Joy, and Peace & Calming. This is probably my most favorite thing to order. So many awesome oils for an awesome price!

Brain Power, Common Sense, and Clarity
I got these for Abby. I'm trying out new oils and blends for during our school time. I have high hopes that these will help. I'm also hoping they will help with some meltdowns.

Lavender & Coriander
These are for a friend of mine. I was happy to oblige in ordering her these since I'm teaching a class for her on Thursday!!!

Peppermint x2
I love Peppermint. I use it ALL THE TIME. So I need a good stock!!!

Frankincense
This has become one of my favorite oils. I use it during school. I also use it in my diffuser when I want a different scent in my house. It's a good "catch all" oil and it smells divine. When I first started using oils, I HATED the smell of Frank. But now, ooooooooohhhhhh! It's just LOVELY!

Deep Relief & Ravintsara
I got 2 of each of these. They were the promo this month on ER. Since I had such a large order, I decided to split it up and get the promos twice. We can really use Deep Relief around here and Ravintsara is an exotic on that is a good antiviral. I'm all about the antiviral oils!!!!

I can't wait to start using my new oils this month!!! What did you get?!

Working on a Class GiveAway Basket!!!

I've had so many people ask me about oils that I decided I was going to teach a class. I've never done this before - with oils! I never thought I would get this far into "oiling", to be honest! But here I am, prepping for my first Young Living Essential Oils 101 Class!!!

I decided I'd make a GiveAway Basket for a drawing. Here's what I placed in the basket:

~ Ann Voskamp's  One Thousand Gifts Devotional to put into the basket. I honestly believe that essential oils are God's gifts to us!!!

~ A Lavender Body Butter/Cream
1 cup coconut oil
1 tsp vitamin E oil
20 drops EO of your choice.
Whip for 5 minutes until light and fluffy! Store in an airtight glass jar!

~ Stress Away Bath Salts
2 cups Epsom Salts
25-30 drops EO of your choice
Put in a food processor and blend until salt is fine and oils are dispersed evenly. Store in an airtight container.

~ Samples of diluted Thieves, diluted Peace & Calming, Diluted Peppermint, and Lavender

I hope whoever wins this enjoys it!!!

Thieves

Thieves is my all-time favorite oil EVER!!!! Not only does it work for SO MANY things, it also smells *A-M-A-Z-I-N-G*!!!!!!!!

Here is its list of accomplishments:

~ highly antiviral
~ antiseptic
~ antibacterial
~ antifungal
~ anti-infectious
~ antiparasitic
~ immune stimulant
~ anti-inflammatory
~ astringent

Common uses for Thieves are to help protect the body from flu, candida, colds, etc. It also helps with sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, coughs, strep, sore throats, gum disease, teething, cold sores, bruises, cuts, infection, slivers and splinters.

This oil blend contains Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus radiata, and Rosemary cineol.

It's funny name - "Thieves" - is from its origin of use. It was used by thieves in England during the time of the Plague to protect themselves from the sick and dying while they were looting the towns which the Plague had reached.

This is one of my go-to oils. I use it in so many ways! I diffuse it almost every day! The smell is just gorgeous! Reminds me of Christmas!!

I also put a few drops into capsules and take it internally if I feel like I am trying to fight off an infection or I know of some virus going around.

Thieves is so powerful in its effectiveness that it has its own line of cleaning supplies!!! You can get:

  • All Purpose Thieves Cleaner (I use this for EVERYTHING in my house!)
  • Toothpaste
  • Throat Lozenges
  • Bar Soap
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Foaming Hand Soap (which I ADORE!!!)
  • Mouthwash
  • Dental Floss
  • Spray
  • Wipes
There is so much that Thieves can do for you!!!! Contact me now to get your own bottle of Thieves!!!

Lavender - The "Catch-All" Oil

Lavender is an amazing oil! It's kind of the "catch-all" in the oily world. It smells wonderful - floral, sweet, and light - and has a list of "anti-" properties:

  • anticoagulant
  • anti-convulsive
  • antidepressant
  • antifungal
  • antihistamine
  • anti-infectious
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-microbial
  • anti-septic
It also works as a sedative and an analgesic.

Common uses for Lavender are acne, ADD/ADHD, allergies (skin), calming, chapped lips, cholesterol, crying, dandruff, depression, diaper rash, dry skin, mosquito bites, itching, postpartum depression, sunburns thrush and SO MUCH more!

Basically, when in doubt, USE LAVENDER!

There are many ways you can actually use this oil.

Topically - meaning you can use it on your skin. Lavender is gentle enough to use NEAT, or undiluted, or straight from the bottle. If you  want to use NEAT, apply 2-4 drops directly on area of concern. If you want to dilute, use one drop of oil to one drop of carrier oil.

Aromatic - put a few drops of lavender in your diffuser!!! Or you can inhale directly from the bottle.

Jumping Into The Oily Blogosphere!!!

There are so many "oily blogs" out there with all kinds of information about essential oils. Different brands, different uses, different oils, different carrier oils, different oily accessories....the list goes on and on! How does one keep them all straight?!?!

My name is Jill and I've been an essential oil user for one year, as of the date of this post. I got my start from an internet friend (Thank you, Jodi!) and haven't looked back! I use oils for SO MANY things! I use them on my family, on myself, on my household surfaces, in my food and drinks, and in capsules to take internally! The list of uses is literally endless!!!

I wanted to start my own blog to kind of keep track of all the oily things I'm learning along the way. Essential oils definitely have a learning curve! A year seems like a long time to have been using something, but honestly, I've just scratched the surface!!!

I will post lots of things along the way, but the first and foremost thing I want everyone to know is that that I ONLY use Young Living Essential Oils. Yes, there are many other brands out there. But YL is the ONLY one I trust. I will get into that more on its own post one day. But for now, I'll leave that there.

I hope you enjoy your time here at Just Another Oily Blog! I hope the information you find is helpful! And please don't hesitate to comment or email me to ask any questions! If I can help, I will! If I don't know an answer, I will do my best to find if for you!

Come back often as I update and maintain this site!
